Yearbooking

At Nickelodeon, interns are given the responsibility of placing background characters into scenes. These characters provide context for the show, but are not major characters. On Monsters vs. Aliens, these were mainly army characters. I was responsible for tracking these characters across scenes, sometimes in large crowds or complicated formations, to prevent doubling errors or other animation goofs.

Monsters vs. Aliens - Production Intern

I served as a production intern on the Nickelodeon television show Monsters vs. Aliens in Spring 2013. As a Nicktern, I was responsible for yearbooking, storyboard management, data cataloguing, and assisting with Nickelodeon's charity work.

Storyboard Management

I was responsible for organizing and adding information to storyboards for episodes under three separate teams. Nickelodeon's storyboard software required that I enter storyboard start and end times, final dialogue, and animatic frame counts. This ensured that animation requests sent to overseas studios were accurate, and that the storyboard artists, animatic editor, and network executives were in accord.

Data Cataloguing

Before files were sent overseas, I was asked to package them according to network protocol. This involved renaming files according to a nomenclature and confirming that all files were the proper format.

Interns were also responsible for key-

wording props. This aided the design and storyboard teams, who could look through our catalog of props to determine whether props could be reused or needed to be built. Good keywords equal a more efficient studio!

Nicktern Charity

Our intern group decided to work with a local middle school to spread creativity to Burbank students. We asked Nick artists to help decorate a sketchbook with activities designed to boost kid's artistic skills. I was one of the interns to interact with the kids on a personal basis, as part of a presentation on Nickelodeon and its various television shows. The kids loved filling out the sketchbooks - and asking us for drawings! It was definitely one of my favorite parts of the Nicktern experience.
